Prophecies About Jesus In The Old Testament

1.7.18

The Old Testament gives an account of Jesus Christ and what will happen when he comes. These are books that were written before his birth and ministry. The New Testament is a fulfillment of the prophecies about Jesus Christ and his ministry. We are going to look at how they were predicted and captured in New Testament.

God promised to send his son on earth to redeem mankind. This prophesy is captured in Psalms 2,7. It says that You are my son, it is I who begot you. This is reflected during baptism in all Gospels. When Jesus was baptized, a voice came from heaven and said that This is my son who I am pleased with, Listen to him.

It was prophesied that Christ would be born of a virgin. This is a message that was given by Isaiah in chapter 7 and verse 14. God was to give his people a sign regarding this birth by a virgin. This is fulfilled when Mary, a virgin who was betrothed to Joseph conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and gave birth to Christ. Matthew chapter 1 and verse 23 captures this prophecy in detail.

People are told to prepare the way for the Lord by making it straight. This meant denouncing sins and accepting Christ. This announcement was made long before Christ began his ministry by John the Baptist. He calls Christ the blessed one who comes in the name of the Lord. What Isaiah foresees in chapter 40 verse 3 comes to pass. In fact, John says it clearly to his disciples to ensure that he is not mistaken for Christ.

Christ was to die a painful death in order to earn human kind salvation. Through the wounds, he would pay for the transgressions of human kind. In fact, Isaiah says that it is through the stripes of Christ that we are healed. This is enacted in the gospels as they narrate how Christ suffered and died in order to redeem human kind. In the desert, it is the golden statue of a snake that saved people who were bitten by snakes. This represented the cross from where the salvation of human kind was to come from.

The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is clearly foretold in the wilderness during the journey from Egypt and in the book of Nephi. Chapter 25 verse 13 indicates that Christ will be crucified, die on the cross and be buried. He is to rise again from the dead on the third day. Those who believe in that shall gain salvation. They will also enjoy eternal joy.

The process of dying on the cross and what his crucifiers will do is given in Psalms 22. The chapter says in verse 16 that wicked people have besieged him and are nailing his hands and legs on the cross. It goes on in verse 18 to say that they will ballot for his cloths. This is what happened when Christ was crucified.

It is impossible to exhaust the prophecies but only arrogance would deny that these prophecies were not fulfilled. This is the best example of how Christ becomes a fulfillment of what was prophesied. It has been demonstrated in more ways than one.
