I'm here to challenge you...and trust me...I never said any of this was going to be easy. So here's my challenge to you.
I want you to take up meditation. And before you go, "Oh common really?!" I want you to hear me out.
Give me a minute to really explain to you why taking on this practice can drastically alter your life. So lend me your ears.
You're not going to gain anything from meditation. Nada. Nothing. In fact, let's just call this a "sitting practice."
Every single day, for at least 10 minutes a day (set a timer on your phone) sit on the floor with your legs crossed, close your eyes and focus only on your breath. I don't want you to get guided by tapes, sounds, or anything else. Just your breath.
Breath away and sit there quietly.
Now here's what I'm up to.
When you sit down and focus on being in the present moment, all of the fear, doubt, worry, anxiety and anything else negative effecting your life currently begins to melt out of you. You experience a "falling away" of things instead of trying to always add something new to your life. You begin to sit in a world of simplicity instead of a world of complication.
If thoughts and emotions come in and distract you, don't get mad at yourself, simply come back to your breath. If you get all wrapped up in something or your internal critic is going off, don't get mad or anxious, just come back to your breath.
And that's what this is all about - constantly coming back. Over a 10 minute meditation, you can literally come back hundreds of times. But that's actually the point...you keep coming back to this moment.
With any practice, you are going to be in and out of it. You might miss a couple days or a couple of weeks, but always make sure to come back to it. It's important to view the practices we engage in our lives as things that "nourish" us instead of things we "have to do." There's a huge difference there.
Always come back.
